Highlights from the 4th Discovery Space Consortium Meeting in Cascais, Portugal!

On February 5-6, 2025, the Discovery Space team convened in the picturesque seaside town of Cascais, Portugal, for the 4th Consortium Meeting. As the project enters its third and final year, the gathering provided a crucial opportunity to assess progress, address challenges, and strategise the next steps leading to its conclusion.

The first day of the meeting focused on key technical advancements, with discussions centred around the Discovery Space Exploratory Learning Environment and its latest features, improvements, and learning analytics dashboard. The team also reflected on the first pilot implementation of the AI-driven Lifelong Learning Companion, sharing insights and exploring ways to enhance student classification, adaptive learning paths, and teacher support mechanisms. Additionally, the consortium reviewed progress on Mixed Reality experiments and the implementation of Pilot Scenarios, emphasising the development of additional scenarios and refining the assessment methodology. A significant portion of the day was dedicated to the “Teachers as Leaders of Change” initiative, focusing on strategies and materials for innovative curricula, teacher training programs, and the expansion of the Discovery Space Community of Practice.

The second day shifted attention to communication, dissemination, and sustainability efforts, ensuring the project’s long-term impact. Updates on project management covered status reports, procedural refinements, and role allocations, ensuring smooth coordination for the final phase. The meeting concluded with a comprehensive wrap-up session, outlining the roadmap for the next six months and the key milestones leading to the project’s completion.

The 4th Discovery Space Consortium Meeting reaffirmed the project’s commitment to innovation in education, highlighting the collective efforts of partners in shaping the future of exploratory and AI-driven learning environments. With clear objectives and a shared vision, the team is now focused on delivering impactful results in the final year of the project.
